Nordic Followership

Nordic Followership is a network for people curious about followership — and about how it works in a Nordic context. Together with partners such as the Global Followership Network, we want to grow interest in followership and show how it shapes society, organizations, and business.

Why a Nordic network?

Natural leadership and followership function the same way all over the world because underlying human behaviour doesn’t change from one country to the next. What does change is culture: what people expect leadership and followership to look like, and how they think about hierarchy, trust, and who gets to make decisions.

The Nordic countries are a good place to study this. They share a reputation for flat hierarchies and consensus over top-down orders — yet Swedes, Danes, Finns, Norwegians, and Icelanders don’t view leadership and followership in quite the same way. That combination, similar enough to compare and different enough to learn from, is what makes the region so interesting.
